From the jungles of Colombia to back lanes in Canada, over the span of 25-years Dr. McKenzie has developed innovative approaches to preventing, detecting, locating and identifying missing and disappeared persons. Her focus has been displaced and unhoused Indigenous people.
Dr. McKenzie has created new methods to use existing homelessness databases to detect when vulnerable persons go missing; search for missing persons; document identifiable features in empowering ways; and prioritize interventions for people at high-risk of going missing or being murdered. These approaches can also be used to identify people from unhoused communities when they are unable to speak for themselves.
